After graduating from Florida State University, Ryan joined the Miami New Times staff in November 2013 as a web editor and eventually music editor, where he once had lunch with DJ Khaled.
Since then he's won first place awards from the Florida Press Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Florida Magazine Association, as well as third place honors in the 2016 Green Eyeshade Awards.
Since 2019, he has served as the editor of The Infatuation Miami, where he has written and edited hundreds of restaurant reviews and guides that span from Key West to West Palm Beach. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Billboard, Vice, A.V. Club, and Fort Lauderdale Magazine.
